Cairo Web Site

Total Disclosure and Accountability is Critical to Effective Citizen Participation in City Government. Making Access to Information and Interactivity "Easy" and Readily Available is also Important.

And while it is Great that there are Independent Web Sites Serving The Interests and People of Cairo (like Cairo Gate)... it is Essential that The City of Cairo Itself has Its Own "Formal" Website. It is Necessary that City Government be Legally Required to Provide Relevant Public Information to The People via The Web Site (and other means)... but at The Same Time Not Have Primary Control of The Administration of The Site and Personnel. The Web Master would be Appointed by The City Counsel from Endorsements Made from The Public Sector... and could only Be Dismissed by a 100% Vote of The City Council... with Justifiable Cause. If Possible... The Web Master would become an "Elected Position"... rather than an Appointed One.

Hopefully, The Need and Effectiveness of The Web Site would become Self Evident... and Cairo would set a Precedent that Other Towns in The Little Egypt Area would follow. Through The "People for Little Egypt" Website... All of The City Web Sites would be Represented and Networked.

I have been Pressing This Idea and Issue for the last 15 years... and it is No Wonder that it hasn't been Readily Welcomed and Embraced by City Government. It would effectively make them More Accountable... and Empower The People... and "that" has not been what Past Cairo Government has been about. It is NOT what it is about Today!

Following are Just Some of The Proposed Features that would Available on The Site. Most probably... many More would be eventually added.

Some Essential Features:

Chat Room

Cairo History

Bulletin Board

News of Cairo

Self Expressions

Donations Section

Discussion Groups

City Counsel Meeting Notes

Disclosure & Accountability

Recognitions, Honors & Awards

Other Relevant Features:

Tourist Attractions in Area

National Topics of Interest

Some Proposed "Donations" would be for:

Web Site Administration

Advertising & Activities

Tourism & Entertainment

Riverlore

St. Mary's Park

Customs House

Magnolia Manor

Daystar Care Center

NO TAX DOLLARS WILL BE USED!

The Cairo Web Site will be Independent of City Control... but be Sponsored by It. The Cost of Running the Site would depend on Public Donations and Grants. If Legally Feasible, the City would help with the expenses on an ongoing basis through "None Tax" Revenue.

Staff would be mostly Volunteer. Any Future Salary will be Dependent on The Capacity of The Web Site to Support Itself and Personnel.
