Equality

Equality Infers Justice!

You Cannot Have One Without The Other!

There is a Reason that The Statue of Lady Justice is Blindfolded. Not because Justice is "Blind"... but because Justice Should Be Impartial.

For Equality and Justice to Prevail... Government and Social Institutions have to Be Impartial in How They are Administered and How They Serve The Public. And that is not always easy to do... because "Equality" and "Justice" are Concepts that are not always easy to Define and Understand.

Without going into great depth to Qualify the Previous Statement... let me go directly to My Intended Subject Matter... and that is "Cultural Bias".  We All Are Guilty of It... and We Apply It Indiscriminately and Usually without Conscious Awareness.

It is Not a Racial Issue... Nor a Sex Issue... and Not Even a National Origin Issue. Yet... all of These Factors Effect It. It has to do with The Family Culture... Neighborhood Culture... Religious Culture... Social Culture... and Regional Culture... We Grew Up In. And that is only to name a Few of The Cultural Influences that have Formed Our Attitudes and Affinities.

From a Personal Perspective... Individuals Have The Right and Privilege to Be as Culturally Bias as They Like. But as Public Servants... They Don't. It is a Problem in America that Needs to Be Addressed... and Ultimately Will Only Be Resolved through Education and Conscientious Cooperation.

I Bring This Subject Up Here... because I See "Cultural Bias" as Being One of The Major Problems in Cairo (and Southern Illinois for That Matter). Also, I Perceive The Bias to Be Mainly in The Areas of Ultra Conservatism and Religious Fundamentalism.

That is NOT to Say that I am against Conservatives or Religion... because in Many Ways I am a Conservative (just as in Many Ways I am a Liberal)... and in Many Ways I am Religious (just as in Many Ways I am Secular). And I am definitely NOT Saying that Individuals Can't Be and Think However They Choose. Personal Freedom Should Never Be Infringed Upon! But for Individuals Who Have The Public Trust and Interest to Account For and To... It Is Not Acceptable and Should Not Be Tolerated.

Obviously, this is a Subject that cannot be Adequately Addressed in a Few Short Paragraphs. Actually... in Terms of Political Expediency... I should never have brought it up. One's Opponents Love It When You Do Stuff Like This. But... Besides Being a Hopeless Idealist... My Objective in This Campaign is Not to Be Expedient. My Objective is To Address The Issues As I See Them... and Make Them Visible!
