Campaign 2007
Impropriety
"Impropriety" basically means an "Improper Act"...
In this Instance... I am Referring to Improper Acts of Political Incumbents and/or Candidates during The Campaign Process. Also, I am only Mentioning Incidences of which I have Personal First Hand Experience.
Improper Act I:
Incumbent Mayor Paul Farris DID NOT File His Petition According to The Rules of The Illinois Board of Elections and The Illinois Compiled Statutes.
On The First Day to Officially File Petitions (December 11, 2006), Mayor Farris Signed The 2007 PETITIONS FILING SIGN IN SHEET "Before" The Doors were Officially Opened at exactly 8:00 am. Therefore, Paul Farris not only Filed His Petitions Before The Official Time Set by Illinois Statute... He also DID NOT Follow The Law Insuring a Fair and Impartial "Lottery" for Candidate Registration. In Other Words... He DID NOT Stand In Line with The Other Candidates... and Abused His Power as Mayer to Give Him an Illegal Advantage in The Consolidated Primary Election.
The "Rule" is that The "Order of Listing" on The Voting Ballot is Determined by The Order of "Filing Petitions". I made a Special Effort to Be First In Line... so that My Name would be First on The Ballot. This is Very Important in The Voting Process. By NOT FOLLOWING THE RULES OF FILING PETITIONS... He Not Only did Me and Injustice... but The Cairo Community... and The Spirit of Fair and Unbiased Elections and Responsible Government. He ABUSED HIS POWER... as he has Continuously Done throughout his Term as Mayor.
The Question Voters Have to Ask Is:
"Why Would He Change Now?"
He was Voted Into Office with The Promise of Fighting Political Corruption and "Cleaning Up" City Hall. How does he Propose to Do That When "HE IS PART OF THE PROBLEM"! It's Just "Politics As Usual" with The Farris Administration... Peppered with a Good Dose of Hypocrisy. While Admonishing The City Counsel (and Past Administrations) for All of Their "Corruption" and Abuse of Power... He in Turn is More Than Guilty of His Own Accusations.
My Main "Problem" with Mayor Paul Farris is His ABUSE OF POWER, Hypocrisy, and Disrespect for The Letter and Spirit of The Law and The Democratic Process.
My Main "Problem" with Government In General is Political Corruption and Lack of Loyalty and Purpose in Responsibly Representing and Serving The American People.
"Politics As Usual" has to Stop! And If We are going to "Make a Difference" on The National Level... We Have to Make a Difference on The Local Level. Our Challenge is Greater and More Significant than We Can Ever Imagine!
Cairo Can Be a Star... a Shining Example to The Nation.
We Have to Empower The People... and The People Have to Take an Active and Passionate Part in The Rebuilding of Cairo. Apathy, Indifference and a Lack of Continued Vigilance... will only Leave Us Where We Are... Stranded in a Purposeless Sea of Confusion and Personal Gain... without a Wind of Vision to Move Us Meaningfully Forward.
It Is a Time for Heroes... and The Most Important Ones Are The Voters. Whoever You Are and Whoever You Vote For...
Be a Hero...
Best of Campaigning,
Lonnie J. Burris Political Candidate City of Cairo, Illinois
